Kiersten Hill
Director of Nonprofit Solutions, Firespring · Author, Captivate and Engage
Kiersten has spent nearly two decades helping nonprofits raise more money, tell better stories and build websites that actually work for the people they’re trying to reach.
Her Story
Kiersten Hill grew up in North Platte, Nebraska, and graduated from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln before spending nearly two decades in nonprofit management and fundraising. Along the way, she’s helped raise more than $20 million to strengthen Nebraska's nonprofit sector. That money has funded food pantries, after-school programs, shelters and the hundreds of other missions that make up the fabric of a community.
Today, as Firespring’s Director of Nonprofit Solutions, Kiersten works to help nonprofit leaders and their boards achieve their missions through education and empowerment. She’s helped organizations across the country unlock the power of storytelling, and she presents at nearly 100 webinars and nonprofit conferences a year, bringing energy, authenticity and a healthy dose of straight talk to every session.
“I’ve sat across the table from the executive director who hasn’t taken a day off in six months. I’ve been in the room when a board is staring down a budget shortfall, and someone suggests cutting the website because ‘it’s not really the mission.’ I’ve coached development directors drowning in donor communications while trying to figure out what a Google Ad Grant even is. I don’t understand nonprofits in the abstract–I’ve lived it.”

Why she wrote Captivate and Engage
Kiersten wrote Captivate and Engage because nonprofit leaders deserve a resource written by someone who has done the work, not just studied it. Every chapter draws on real conversations with executive directors, development staff and board members–the people actually responsible for making a nonprofit website work with a fraction of the budget and staff a for-profit company would have.
